Josep Ramoneda participates this week in La Nau in the Escola Europea de Pensament

The journalist and philosopher Josep Ramoneda offers this week in the Cultural Centre La Nau a conference and a seminar in the activities programme of the Escola Europea de Pensament Lluís Vives The conference will take place on Wednesday 14 December, at 19 hours, and the seminar on the 15, at 11 hours. Both activities are free.

‘La cultura en la era de la incertidumbre. ¿Qué pueden aportar las humanidades en la era digital?’ (Culture in the era of uncertainty. What can humanities provide in the digital era?) is the title of the conference offered by Ramoneda on Wednesday in the Paranymph of the UV. The utility of the humanistic knowledge in the Internet culture offers lots of possibilities but also challenges and defiance that can threaten its own survival. One day later, on Thursday 15, the journalist will offer a seminar aimed at the people interested in cultural management. Under the title ‘Los equipamientos culturales hoy. Mi experiencia de 20 años en el CCCB’ (The cultural facilities nowadays. My experience of 20 years in the CCCB), the seminar will take place in the Gonzalo Montiel room of La Nau. There is free entrance and limited seating. Josep Ramoneda (Cervera, 1949) is journalist and philosopher. Director of the ‘La Maleta de Portbou’ magazine and the Escuela Europea de Humanidades of Barcelona, regular contributor to ‘El País’ journal and ‘Cadena Ser’ and to ‘Ara’ Catalan journal, he heads a collection of essays in ‘Galaxia Gutenberg’.

He is chairperson of Edicions 62. He was the director of the Centro de Cultura Contemporánea de Barcelona (CCCB), between 1989 and 2011, and president of the Institut de la Recherche et de l’Innovation (IRI) of París (2009-2014). Director of the Instituto de Humanidades de Barcelona (1986-1989) and professor of Contemporary Philosophy at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (1975-1990). He has published several books, the main ones being ‘Apologia del present. Assaigs de fi de segle’ (Apology for the Present: Essays for the End of a Century, Edicions 62, 1989), ‘Después de la pasión política’ (After the Political Passion, Taurus, 1999), ‘Del tiempo condensado. Globalización, inmigración, terrorismo, cultura’ (On Condensed Time: Globalisation, Immigration, Terrorism, Culture, Debolsillo, 2003), ‘Contra la indiferencia. Apología de la Ilustración’ (Against Indifference: Apology for the Enlightenment, Galaxia Gutenberg, 2010), ‘La izquierda necesaria’ (The Necessary Left, RBA Libros, 2012) and the collective book ‘Existential Utopia’ (New York, 2012). He has received the award Ciutat de Barcelona de Proyección Internacional (2012) and the award Nacional de Cultura de la Generalitat de Catalunya (2013).

What is the Escola de Pensament Lluís Vives?
The Escola Europea de Pensament Lluís Vives is a cultural project, boosted from the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Equality of the UV, with the management of the General Foundation of the UV, that is configured as a space for reflection and open, participatory and critical debate about current issues worldwide and also for the Valencian society. The Escola also has the participation of other individuals of the Public administration and civil society: The President of the Valencian government, the City Hall of Valencia, the Valencian Department of Transparency and Education, Research, Culture and Sports, the Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua, the Alfons el Magnànim Institute, the Escola Europea d’Humanitats and the Caixa Popular.
