La Nau Cultural Centre of the University of Valencia is holding a new session of WebinarsLANAU cycle on the painting exhibition ‘La anguila. Esto es un cuadro, no una opiníon’, by Paula Bonet, which was on display in Sala Academia at La Nau between March and May. The artist will talk with Cristina Chumillas, art historian and curator of the exhibiton, on about its process and development, from its creation to its inauguration, including through the installation and the catalogue elaboration. The event, that will be held through via Google Meet on Wednesday 26 May at 19:00h, will be presented and moderated by Adela Cortijo, director of the University Culture Service. Registration, which is free and necessary, can be made at:

The webinar, entitled ‘La anguila. Proceso y desarrollo de una exposicón de pintura’, will focus on the long road travelled from the creation of the project to its inauguration two years later, including its display in a detailed catalogue that includes reflections and literary creations by exceptional authors as Patricia Escalona, Cristina Morales, Laura Freixas, Kate Bolick or Nell Leyson. In addition, the word takes on a very important specific weight because, beyond the catalogue, the pictoral exhibition coexists with a novel of the same name published by Bonet in the Spanish version by Anagrama and by Univers in Valencian.

The exhibition has been produced by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Spot of the University of Valencia and marks Paula Bonet’s return to painting after a few years focused on drawing and illustration. The artist focuses on the world around us and, in particular, on issues affecting women. This is an exhibition made up entirely of original pictorial work, in which the narration of personal experiences through images of dark expressionism becomes a reflection on the complexity of being a woman and the need to rethink its dimension.

Paula Bonet has a degree in Fine Arts by the Universitat Politècnica de València specialising in painting and later completed her training in Santiago de Ghile, New York and Urbino. Her work focused on oil painting, engraving and writing. She has held exhibitions in Barcelona, Madrid, Porto, Paris, London, Urbina, Berlin, Santiago de Chile, Valencia, Miami and Mexico City. Qué hacer cuando en la pantalla aparece The End (Lunwerg, 2014), 813 (Bridge, 2015), and La Sed (Lungwerb, 2016) are her first publishing publications. In them, image and word have an equal weight. In April 2017, Quema la memoria (Lunwerg) was published, an illustrated songbook where her universe merges with that of the singer-songwriter The New Raemon. In March 2018 she published Por el olvido (Lunwerg) with the cartoonist Aitor Saraiba.  With Roedores / Cuerpo de embarazada sin embrión (Literatura Random House, 2018) she gives voice to silence, breaks a taboo and normalises such a common reality as miscarriage. That same year she received the High Distinction of the Generalitat Valenciana, being awarded the Medal for Cultural Merit. Since then, she has directed the workshop La madriguera, a space for creation and learning in which techniques linked to graphics and literature are developed. She is currently touring with The New Raemon with the show Quema la memoria, a performance that combines music, words and painting with great public and critical acclaim. Her most recent literary work is the aforementioned La anguila, which forms a diptych together with the exhibition of the same name hosted by La Nau Cultural Centre between March and May 2021.
