Theatre has been object of study, research, teaching, creation, critics and reflection of the professor of the Universitat de València Josep Lluís Sirera (Valencia, 1954-2015). This volume includes academic works of workmates and disciples who have shared his knowledges and friendship. It is a book of theatre studies which is intended to be a tribute to the professor Sirera. He was a great academic, professional and passionate about theatre who has had influence on some generations of researchers until his death. His commitment, trajectory and dedication through almost forty years are an example of the repercussion of the university professor and of his three professional fields: the teaching, the research and the management.

According to Josep Lluís Canet, one of the four editors together with Marta Haro, John London and Birel Sansano “is a volume which is intended to be a referent in the Spanish theatre studies from the approaches of the performing arts (actors, atrezzo, stages, theatres, etc.). It aims at bringing together all the aspects of the representation and it counts on the collaboration of thirty professors. It is a deserved academic tribute to Josep Lluís Sirera who was the first full university professor of Theatre History of the Universitat de València and one of the few in Spain”.

About Josep Lluís Sirera

Josep Lluís Sirera passed away on 8 December 2015 in Valencia due to the complications of a disease. Sirera was retired full university professor of Spanish Literature as well as a prestigious author and adaptor of theatre texts.

Shortly before his passing, Josep Lluís Sirera had retired as full university professor of the Department of Spanish Philology of the Universitat de València. He had been vice-dean of the Faculty of Philology (1986-1987), Dean of the same centre (1987-1989), director of the Department of Spanish Philology (1992-1995), director of the Libraries and Documentation Service of the Universitat de València (2002-2006) and vice-principal of Culture from 2010 until March 2011. Some of his theatre texts had been released by the Theatre Club of the Universitat de València.
