More than 300 specialists in Labour Law and Social Security will talk about the time of work and climate change

It is the biggest national meeting of experts in this discipline. The Universitat embraces the 35th Annual Congress of the Spanish Association of Labour Law and Social Security (AEDTSS). The meeting also intents to be a sign of support for the DANA victims.

The Universitat de València will be the headquarters the days 29 and 30 may of the35th Annual Congress of the Spanish Association of Labour Law and Social Security (AEDTSS). With more than 300 attendees and centered in the ‘time of work and climate change’, its intention is to also be a sign of support for the DANA victims. It is the biggest national meeting of experts in Labour Law and Social Security.

The opening act will take place the 29 May, at 9:30h, in la Nau, directed by the Principal of theUniversitat de València, María Vicenta Mestre Escrivá; State Secretariat for Employment, Joaquín Pérez Rey; the regional secretary for Employment and director general of LABORA, Antonio Galvañ Díez; President of the Economic and Social Council, Antón Costas Comesaña; and the president of AEDTSS and the emeritus president of the Constitutional Court, María Emilia Casas Baamonde.

The professor of Labour Law and Social Security of the Universitat de València, José María Goerlich Peset, will be in charge of teaching the opening presentation of the congress in which more than 300 people will attend, among those people we find academic from more than forty universities, as well as professionals on the branch of law, judiciary, and Public administration. As Goerlich explains “the regulation of the time of work is a key component for decent work and, from this point of view, its revision and reform, requires that of the guarantees linked to this idea”.

On the other hand, the president of AEDTSS, María Emilia Casas, thanked the support to all the institutions and people involved and has congratulate them for the numerous attendence. She has specially wanted to highlight the participation of the Economic and Social Council of Spain, that for the first time and in a special way, will count with a debate table. This way, CES also joints this solidary congress.

In this sense, Casas wanted to recall why the event is held in Valencia: “even if the 35th congress was meant to be about ‘time of work’, the tragic events that happened in October, 2024 on the occasion of the DANA made us reconsider the subject, which shifted its focus to ‘time of work and climate change’. It could not be another way if we take into account that, even if these type of meteorological phenomena are frequent of that area, they are becoming more frequent and fierce due to the effect of the human action on climate. This way, the 35th congress has turned into the solidary congress with Valencia”, has confirm.

The closing act, will take place the 30 May at 14h in the Faculty of Law, it is foreseen that the Deans of the Faculty of Law and Social sciences, Clara Viana and Elena Mut will come; and the Valencian Mayoress María José Catalá. In which it will be published the named ‘Valencian Declaration’, document that will include the conclusions and proposals from the congress.

The congress has the institutional support of the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy, the Generalitat Valenciana (Valencian Government), the City Council of Valencia, the Economic and Social Council of Spain, the State Public Employment Service (SEPE), FEACEM, the Official College of Social Graduates of Valencia, the Bar Association of Valencia, Tirant lo Blanch and the Universitat de València.
