More than 2000 people visit the Orchid Exhibition that inaugurates the month dedicated to these plants at the Botànic

The 16th Orchid Exhibition, organised by the Orchid Devotee Valencian association in the Botanical Garden of the Universitat de València, attracted more than 2,000 people last weekend. Two days with exhibition and sale of copies, workshops, talks with specialists, children's activities and guided tours of the Botanical Orchid Stove. The exhibition inaugurates the "May, month of orchids" programme, which includes a talk with Valencian orchid specialist Lluís Serra, an orchid cultivation courses and the celebration of Plant Fascination Day.

The celebration of this traditional meeting between professionals, amateurs and visitors who take the opportunity to take an orchid along with a good handful of tips reaches the 16th edition while maintaining healthy attendance figures. More than 2,000 people have visited the exhibition, organised by the Orchid Devotee Valencian association, dedicated to spreading the passion for orchids, and consolidate the Exhibition as the spring appointment with the public interested in enjoying and deepening their knowledge of this family of plants, one of the largest in existence.

In order to contribute to responding to this growing interest in orchids, for the second consecutive year, the Botànic de la Universitat has programmed May, the month of orchids, with various activities. Thus, from 13 to 19 May, will take place the course Cultivation of orchids, training aimed at providing knowledge on cures, flowering, multiplication and cultivation techniques of orchids with the aim that both amateurs and professionals get their orchids grow healthy and they can flower spectacularly.

On 18 May, the Jardí joins in the celebration of the International Plant Fascination Day with an open day. An entire day, with free entrance to the garden, to allow oneself to be seduced by the most marvellous vegetable proposals that will come from the hand of a fair of associations fascinated by plants, guided visits to the most unique specimens in the Botanical collections, where orchids will have an outstanding role, and proposals for the youngest public.  In short, to learn and share the passion for plants.

Finally, on 23 May, botanist Lluís Serra will give the talk La nova guia d'orquídies de la Comunitat Valenciana in which he will review the evolution of knowledge about Valencian orchids over the last 20 years, from the publication of the first guide to the present day, and the parallelism of its monitoring with the interest of naturalists and the development of photography.

Orchids, without a doubt, are fascinating and captivating plants.  One family, the Orchidaceae, one of the largest that exist, with more than 850 genera and 30,000 known species, plus all the natural hybrids or those created by people.  Getting to know them and enjoying them this May is an occasion that the Botanical Garden of the Universitat de València invites you to take advantage of.  Aromas, colours and shared experiences around plants that delight the senses.
