The music of Berlanga will be played on Friday at a piano concert at La Nau

On Friday the 20th at 7 PM, the pianist Pablo García-Berlanga will be offering a tribute concert to Luis García Berlanga through the music of his movies at La Nau, Cultural Centre of the Universitat de València. The activity has been organised by the Office of the Vice-Principal of Culture and Society, in conjunction with the Valencian Government.
Pablo García-Berlanga, the director’s grandnephew, wants to highlight the importance of this music inside the activities related to the filmmaker’s birth through a concert titled ‘Berlanga y su música’ (Berlanga and his music) in La Nau’s Capella de la Sapiència (Wisdom Chapel). The piano recital, which will go over the best moments his movies music, will be accompanied by images created expressly for this project by the Valencian visual artists Ceballos&Sanabria. The concert programme goes over the music of compositors like Jesús García Leoz, ‘Esa pareja feliz’ (That Happy Couple, 1951) or ‘Bienvenido Mr. Marshall’ (Welcome Mr. Marshall!, 1952); Miguel Asíns Arbó, ‘Plácido’ (Placido, 1961) or ‘La vaquilla’ (The Heifer, 1984); Luis Mendo, ‘Blasco Ibáñez’ (1996); or Francesco Lavanigno, ‘Calabuch’ (The Rocket from Calabuch, 1956), among others. The pianist Pablo García-Berlanga stands out by the creativity of his performances and programmes. He studied at the Superior Conservatory of Music of Valencia, the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel and the Royal Academy of Music of London. His artistic curiosity has guided him to develop a repertoire that goes from baroque to contemporary music and always includes unpublished or unknown compositions. He performs internationally in renowned auditoriums like the Carnegie Hall of New York, the KIOI Concert Hall of Tokyo or the Palau de les Arts of Valencia. The pianist, besides having recorded five CDs, has been awarded the Christian Carpenter Piano Prize, the first award at the Cofrentes II International Wind Chamber Music Competition, and the IBLA Grand Prize. Nowadays, he balances his artistic activities with his teaching job at the Superior Conservatory of Music of Valencia.
