The Musical Activities Area of the General Foundation of the Universitat de València has opened the registration of the Musical Training Courses corresponding to the first four months of 2019. The new offer consists of three courses that will deepen in piano performance, orchestral conducting and attendance at a concert as a didactic tool.

The eleventh edition of the piano performance course, this year by the internationally renowned pianist and soloist Carles Marín, will begin on 2 February and until 8 June at the Sapiència Chapel of the La Nau Cultural Centre.  The course will allow participants, throughout the six sessions planned, to acquire more confidence in public performance, the acquisition of study methods for greater performance, learn the importance of breathing on the piano or understand the intimate relationship between the ear and the pedal, among others. In addition, the teacher will select two students, who will perform a concert in the 2019/2020 season of the Aula de Música de la Universitat de València.

Students and orchestra conductors will have the opportunity to participate in the Masterclass of orchestra conducting, given by the musical and artistic director of l'Orchestre de Auvergne, the Valencian Robert Forés Veses and which will have practical sessions with the Universitat de València’s Philharmonic Orchestra as the main orchestra.

The course will take place from the 8th to the 13th of April, and will allow the students to improve the technique of conducting applied with orchestra from the study of Béla Bártok's Concert for Orchestra. Active students will have to have at least completed music studies of a professional degree and present their artistic curriculum and a video recording conducting in rehearsal or concert before 11 March 2019.  The selection will be made public before March 25.  In order to attend classes as listeners, listeners will have to accredit, as a minimum, musical studies completed in the middle grade.  The course will end on Saturday 13 April at the Palau de la Música, with students attending a commented concert performed by the Universitat de València’s Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by Beatriz Fernández, from Paiporta.

This aforementioned concert will also be attended by the students of the course "(De)construyendo la música: vamos de concierto!" which the l'Àrea d'Activitats Musicals co-organises with the CEFIRE Artístico-expresivo and in collaboration with the Palau de la Música de València. The course will take place over two sessions focused on Béla Bártok's Concert for Orchestra, in which the work, the most important features of the author and the concert as an act of artistic communication will be analysed.

The course will begin on the 30th of March in La Nau with a presentation by the lecturer of the Department of Didactics of Musical, Plastic and Body Expression Vicente Galbis on Béla Bartók in the context of the music of the first half of the 20th century and three workshops on the psychology of hearing, Bartók's relationship with folklore and a last one analysing what a concert is as a musical form and as an act of communication, given by Judit Gual, Daniel Vidal and María Romero, respectively. The second session of the course will consist of attending as an audience a concert at the Palau de la Música in València on the 13th of April in which the Orquestra will perform Bartók's work with live comments by its director.

Students who meet the attendance requirement (minimum of 80%) will receive a certificate of achievement of the course.  Students from the Universitat de València and members of the Alumni UV collective will enjoy discounts on prices.
