The event will be hosted and moderated by Álvaro Pons, head of the Universitat de València’s Comic Society, and will feature journalist Álex Serrano. Along with the cartoonist, they will be talking about this compilation of the adventures and misfortunes of the legendary Buddy Bradley, a character based on Bagge himself who starred in most of his work with overwhelming success.

Through his work, Bagge knew how to bring together the essence of the 90s, the explosion of the grunge, the omnipresence of the MTV, the invasion of tattoos or the first reality shows. Las Crónicas de Odio is an opportunity to reconnect with this cast of charismatic characters that surround Buddy Bradley in his everyday life.

Peter Bagge

PETER BAGGE (Peekskill, 1957) attended the School of Visual Arts in New York and complemented his artistic education by reading all kinds of underground comics. He took his first steps as a professional in the latter half of the 70s, co-publishing on John Holmstrom’s legendary Punk Magazine. In the early 80s, he went on to publish cartoon strips in magazines like Comical Funnies or Robert Crumb’s legendary Weirdo, of which he would later become editor until he abandoned the task to focus on his own publication, Neat Stuff, where the characters of Hate were introduced.

Bagge has occasionally worked for Marvel and DC on custom projects and has practiced graphic journalism with notorious results. He signed articles and columns for magazines like Details or Reason (compiled on the book Everybody is Stupid Except for Me). However, his name remains above anything else as a banner for the alternative comics that shook the international scene in the 90s, largely thanks to the tribulations of Buddy Bradley.

Lover and debtor of the Warner cartoons, and sharp anthropologist and observer of our lowest behaviours, he has lately decided to focus on the achievements of human beings, delighting us with biographical glosses of exemplary women like the libertarian Rose Wilder Lane in Credo, the proto-feminist activist Margaret Sanger in Woman Rebel or the African-American writer Zora Neale Hurston in Fire!!.
