The Philharmonic Orchestra of the Universitat de València in concert at Palau de la Música of València

The Philharmonic Orchestra of the Universitat de València, conducted by Hilari Garcia, went on a short tour in Zaragoza (Auditorium – Palacio de Congresos) and Madrid (Complutense University of Madrid).

The Philharmonic Orchestra of the Universitat de València is in the middle of its concert season. Thus, as part of the programmed performances, the OFUV has offered a concert in the Ramón y Cajal Amphitheatre of the Faculty of Medicine of the Complutense University of Madrid on Friday 1st March.

In the words of the Orchestra's conductor, the programme that the university music group has prepared for this short tour, which combines music from French romanticism with an impressionist work by a contemporary Valencian composer, "is demanding, artistically elevated and technically complex".

The programme opened with the Roman Carnival, opus 9 by Hector Berlioz, followed by the Symphony in D minor by César Franck. The concert is part of the programme of activities and exchanges with other musical ensembles of the Spanish University Orchestras Network SINERGIA, in which the Orchestra regularly participates and which follows the participation of the Symphony Orchestra of the Complutense University of Madrid in the last edition of the Serenatas festival.

After its time at this centenary academic institution, the OFUV returned to the Auditorium – Palacio de Congresos of Zaragoza on Sunday, 3 March, to perform together with other university musical ensembles as part of the 44th Introduction to Music Cycle, in the programme 'The University Orchestras'. On this occasion, in addition to the aforementioned compositions by Hector Berlioz and César Franck, the programme included a selection from Sorolla by the Valencian composer Juanjo Colomer.

"We have put it together in a very short time —barely a month and a half— with the added complexity of the preparation during the exam period, but the talent of the musicians has made it possible to put together a serious and high-quality repertoire, with a positive and artistically valuable result, which was already reflected in the concert in Ontinyent on 22 February, and which has also been on this tour", said Garcia.
