What can we do to combat a new emerging virus? Is SARS-CoV-2 infection really that serious? Could it have been prevented? What means are really effective to stop or reduce the spread of viruses and other infections? Institute for Integrative Systems Biology (Universitat de València-CSIC) will hold a round table discussion on these issues on Monday, 2nd of March. The event will take place at 12:30 in the assembly hall of the institute (main building, UV Science Park).

Four researchers from the Research Programme for Pathogen Systems Biology of the Institute for Integrative Systems Biology (Universitat de València-CSIC) will respond to all questions associated with COVID-19 pneumonia. The participants of the discussion will include Mireia Coscollà (researcher of RyS subprogram, Bacterial Pathogenomics Group), Santiago F. Elena (a research professor at CSIC, Evolutionary Systems Virology Group), Ron Geller (researcher of RyS subprogram, Viral Biology Group), and Fernando González-Candelas (a full university professor of Genetics at the Universitat de València, Molecular Epidemiology Group).

Research Programme for Pathogen Systems Biology (I2SysBio) strives to study established interactions between the microorganisms that cause illnesses (such as bacteria and viruses) and their host cells. The research focuses on experimental and theoretical approaches. As interactions between cell components and pathogens and, especially, the evolutionary stability of these interactions are identified, the researchers get new opportunities to develop new and lasting treatment. Biomedical, veterinary, and agricultural implications of this research are undeniable.
