The thorn of nature exhibition.

On Wednesday 22nd February, an exhibition of works participating in the "Beauty and Nature" competition of the magazine Mètode will be held at the Botanical Garden of the University of Valencia.

In February 2022, the magazine Mètode launched a competition for artists to illustrate the monograph of its 115th issue, «Beauty and Nature», dedicated to exploring the concept of beauty from a biological perspective. More than one hundred works were submitted to the call for entries, with a wide variety of techniques, styles and approaches. Finally, eight pieces were chosen to illustrate the cover and the articles of the monograph coordinated by researchers Raquel Ortells and Eduardo M. García Roger. From the process of selecting the winners, the idea originated to create an exhibition that would allow us to share with the public at least a part of the creativity inspired by the premise of the issue.

For this reason, next Wednesday 22 February at 19h, the exhibition "The thorn of Nature" will be inaugurated in the Cold Cooker of the  Botanical Garden of the University of Valencia, which will remain open until 14 May 2023. It is made up of twenty-one works that reflect each artist's vision of nature; a plural and completely original vision in each piece, as the techniques used range from photography to sculpture, digital drawing, oil on canvas, watercolour and cyanotype.

About the artists "the thorn of nature"

Twenty-two artists from different backgrounds, experiences and origins are taking part in the exhibition: Angela Bassano, Àngela Esteban, Amparo Pons, Ana Pons, Assun Savall, Enric Ruscalleda, Esperanza Jiménez, Estrella Terrades, Francisco Juanes Ramos, Gerardo Stübing, Ian Sharp, Irene Aldazabal, Jordi González Castelló, María José Rodes, Nuria Ferriol, Núria Romeu, Pascual Timor, Paz Boira, Roser Pesquer, Silbia López de Lacalle, Valeria Floridia and Yvonne Elvin.

The fact that each one presents a completely unique work, but according to the same concept, results in an eclectic yet harmonious exhibition, which invites us to explore beauty in nature through a very diverse approach.

Science and art: Mètode's trademark

Along its history, the journal Mètode, published by the Vice-Rectorate for Research of the University of Valencia and directed by Professor Martí Domínguez, has placed the study and observation of natural events as a source of artistic inspiration. Numerous acclaimed artists have left their mark on the publication, such as Rafael Armengol, Rosa Torres, Carmen Calvo, Willy Ramos, Esteve Adam… and a long etcetera. This exhibition confirms the role of the magazine as a bridge between science and art, two ways of approaching the world that are more closely related than it might seem.
