This week, the Seasonal University of Llíria focuses its debates on ‘Music as an interdisciplinary and educational tool’. Therefore, the Seasonal Universities programme, propelled by the Universitat de València, will continue in order to promote the dissemination of knowledge linked to the singularity of each territory.

The Seasonal University of Llíria holds its third edition this Friday afternoon to continue the iniative propelled by the Universitat de València (UV), through the office of the Vice-Principal for Territorial Projection and Society, and organised with the town councils, in collaboration with the Council of València and Caixa Popular.

The aim of Seasonal Universities -already present in all the regions, both inland and on the coast- is to promote the dissemination of knowledge and the debate around a monographic subject linked to the singularity of each territory, bearing in mind its particular idiosyncrasy, history and culture, under the auspices of an expert in the subject.

In this year 2020, the challenge of holding 20 Seasonal Universities - name referring to its celebration in one of the four seasons of the year- has been achieved in spite of the restrictions and difficulties generated by COVID-19, which resulted in almost all the Universities taking place in autumn since the sessions are held in just two months, between mid-October and mid-December. For the first time this year, the Seasonal Universities have also been grouped into four thematic areas: ‘Historic and Cultural Heritage’; ‘Territorial Innovation’; Education and Social Welfare; and ‘Biodiversity and Environment’.

The discussion session, which is free and open to the general public, is being held this year in a blended learning format in compliance with the safety measures against COVID-19. In fact, the limitations imposed by the health crisis, far from constituting an obstacle, have turned into an opportunity since there is a telematics attendance alternative via streaming sessions (mediauniweb.uv.es/universitatestacional). The UV will facilitate registration through a website (http://projeccio.uv.es) and will provide the pertinent certificate of attendance to the ones who take part in them, whether it is face-to-face or online.

Seasonal University of Llíria (UELL)

The Seasonal University of Llíria, included in the ‘Historic and Cultural Heritage’ thematic area, will address the educational possibilities of music in schools and high schools under the title ‘Music as an educational and interdisciplinary tool’. The third edition of this session will be held this Friday, 11 December, in the Multipurpose Centre of the locality, starting at 18 p.m.

The opening ceremony will be attended by Manuel Civera Salvador, Mayor of Llíria; Jorge Hermosilla Pla, Vice-Principal for Territorial Projection and Society (UV); Elvira Asensi Silvestre, organiser of the UELL; José Mayans Mateos, director of Llíria’s office of Caixa Popular; and a representative of the Council of València.

Three conferences will be held throughout the afternoon. The first one, on the topic ‘Musical teaching and good governance for the prevention of conflicts of interests’ will be in charge of C. Reyes Marzal Raga, Department of Administrative and Procedural Law (UV). Subsequently, Pablo Marín Liébana, Department of Teaching of Musical, Visual and Corporal Expression (UV), will give a lecture entitled ‘Deconstructing music education. Reflections for teachers in training’. Neus Adrià Cervera, recorder teacher, will speak on ‘Music and classical antiquity. A proposal for secondary school teachers’

At the closing ceremony, Marcel·lí Garcia Peruga, musician and teacher of Llíria, will explain ‘How the song ‘Llíria, city of music’ was born’, which will be presented to the audience.

An interesting and intense activity until the end of the year
