Anna Garrigues Navarro, student of the Physics Degree of the Universitat de València, has received one of the 20 scholarships granted worldwide by the Optica Women Scholars programme, which are endowed with 10,000 dollars. This programme encourages female students in the optics and photonics field. 160 applications from 36 countries have been assessed.

Anna Garrigues, who is currently studying the third year of the degree, will use this grant to complete her studies and do a master’s degree, in addition to participating in congresses and doing internships in laboratories of the Universitat de València and the Institute of Applied Physics "Nello Carrara" of Florence (Italy).

Furthermore, this programme will include the winner in a mentoring programme, involving world-renowned researchers in optics, to provide her with useful tools in her future career.

This is the first edition of the support programme for women studying in the STEM Science field. According to Jessica Pastor, member of the selection committee, “these twenty remarkable women are part of the future of optics and deserve recognition and support while they work to become true leaders in our field.”

The Faculty of Physics of the Universitat de València is pleased to have Anna Garrigues among its students and has encouraged her to continue the path to success she has already started.
