The International Medium-length film Festival La Cabina is organised by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Equality of the Universitat de València, the Valencian Institute of Culture, the Department of Culture through the Directorate General of Culture and Heritage, the Consortium of Museums of the Valencian Government and the Directorate General of language policy and Multilingualism Management. It also has the collaboration of the Valencia City Council, Palau de la Música and the official sponsorship of Turia beer and Caixa Popular.

The screenings of this tenth edition start on Thursday 16 November and will last for 10 days where the best film between 30 and 60 minutes will be presented in the city. This year there are several strong points. For example, the Valencian Medium-length film that will be part of the Official Section “Graffiti” (Lluís Quílez. Spain, 2015), which was nominated for the Goya 2017 and in the run-up to the Oscars in the same year. The US 'Tokyo Project’, will also be part of the Official Section. It is directed by Richard Shepard - an Emmy winner for the direction of the pilot episode of 'Ugly Betty' and director of several episodes of the series 'Girls'-, produced by Lena Dunham, and starring Elisabeth Moss ('Mad Men' and 'The Handmaid's Tale', role for which she recently won the Emmy Award for Best Actress) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach ('Girls'). This screening will be a premier in Europe in big screen and Richard Shepard will attend the festival to present the film.

La Cabina celebrates its tenth anniversary showing its consolidation as Medium-length film festival and placing Valencia as international headquarters for cinema of this format. A prove of that is the great amount of films received (409), of which has been selected 24 of 13 different nationalities (Cuba, Germany, Spain, France, Brazil, Austria, Finland, Belgium, Poland, Holland, Japan, United States and Morocco) for its Official Section.

In “Amalgama”, which takes place in the Cultural Centre La Nau, 10 films have been selected and the great participation of Spain highlights, 5 films under production and 4 co-productions with countries such as France, Chile, India and Belgium.   That is, a total of 9 medium-length film out of the 10 selected. Germany is the other country that is participating in Amalgama producing Simba in NY.

Parallel sections and activites

 ‘La Cabina: 10 anys, 10 cartells’ is the exhibition that gathers in the Open Hall of La Nau, in addition to the posters that have been the image of the festival in its 10 years of life, it also shows the trophy that , for the first time, will be awarded to the Best Short Film of Official Selection and to the Best Short Film of Amalgama.

Music returns to have a special relevance with the section 'Visuals'. This year it changes its headquarters and will be celebrated in the cloister of the Carme Cultural Centre thanks to the collaboration of the Consortium of Museums of the Generalitat. There, four valencian groups (Salfuman, Navvier, Tardor y Tórtel) that incorporate visuals in their performances will offer two concerts on November 23 and 24.

The 'Inèdits' section continues, which will also take place in La Nau, where works by consecrated directors are exhibited that are, to a large extent, unknown to the general public. For the first time, they will be screened with subtitles in Valencian thanks to the participation of the Directorate General of language policy and Multilingualism Management.
