On Friday, 22 November, the Universitat de València celebrates several activities on the Day of the Valencian Network of Healthy Public Universities with the slogan "Move with life”.
The Universitat de València , together with the Valencian Network of Healthy Public Universities (RVUPS), has organised various healthy activities to commemorate the day it was set up as a network and to inform the university community about the benefits of physical activity and the consumption of healthy and sustainable fruit. Also, healthy guides have been made known and each faculty has organized different activities to promote this day.
This year, under the slogan "Move with life", the five Valencian public universities have carried out training, dissemination and intervention activities, focused on the promotion of an active life. Thus, Universitat de València has promoted this day by offering healthy fruit to the university community together with other activities such as exercises to correct incorrect postures, tai-chi classes and other sports practices.
The RVUPS is made up of the Universitat de València, the Universitat Politècnica de València, the University of Alicante, the Universitat Jaume I and the Miguel Hernández University. Recently the universities have acquired the commitment to contribute to the fulfilment of the Objectives of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, including in a transversal way the objectives and values of Sustainable Development in all their actions. Therefore, on the day of the Valencian Network of Healthy Public Universities, the 17 Objectives of Sustainable Development (ODS) will be taken into account to frame the activities carried out in the context of the same.
In recent years there has been an increase in sedentarism at all levels of society, especially in the university environment. Due to the characteristics of the jobs, both the administrative and service staff of the universities and the teaching and research staff perform tasks in which they remain seated or standing for a long time, requiring little mobility. Likewise, the students, in their teaching activities, are seated for many hours. Also, students tend to prolong their sedentary activities outside the university, either by increasing their study time or by incorporating the new technologies they use for their leisure time. Multiple studies have shown a direct association between sedentarism and obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and other chronic diseases very prevalent in our society.
