The Universitat de València has the best research and teaching equipment of middle ear

The Oticon Medical company has donated to Universitat de València medical equipment for the Temporal Bone Drilling Laboratory of Faculty of Medicine with the aim of teaching and practising the temporal bone drilling in the middle ear.

The Principal of Universitat de València, M.ª Vicenta Mestre, and the worldwide President of Oticon Medical, Jes Olsen, signed the Agreement of medical equipment donation to the Temporal Bone Drilling Laboratory with the aim of simulating ear surgery, as well as the nasal and base skull approaches. This equipment is unique in the Spanish university world, which set Universitat de València as leader in this knowledge field.

The Principal M.ª Vicenta Mestre thanked this donation highlighting that ‘it’s important for Universitat to count on this kind of equipment that set us as innovation basis’. ‘This is the right way of work, which joins teaching, research and transfer to society. This is what we promote from Universitat as public university’, said Mestre.

On his part, the President Jes Olsen expressed ‘the Oticon Medical’s willingness to continue with this effort and to keep collaborating with Universitat de València in many fields and aspects’.

The Doctor Jaime Marco pointed out that ‘this equipment is unique in the Spanish universities, none has it, which place Universitat de València in a privileged position for offering to our students an unique, practical and leading edge training across the world’.

‘This donation is a project with a lot of effort that has more than a year of work behind it, but we are very happy to be able to make this donation to the Universitat, since it will allow medical students to know first hand a unique device in one of the most advanced study techniques,’ said the Sales & Manager of OTICON Medical Iberia, Enrique Linaza.

The act had also the presence of the Vice-Principal for Research, Carlos Hermenegildo, the General Manager of Universitat, Juan Vicente Climent, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Francisco Javier Chorro, the Director of Anatomy’s Department, Alfonso Valverde, the General Manager of Hospital Clínic Universitari de València, Alfonso Bonet, as well as numerous members of the faculty. Also have attended from the OTICON company, the Director General of the business group Demant, Pilar Moro, and the Marketing & Communication from Oticon Medical Iberia, Rafael Bustos.

The donated equipment will allow students of Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry to train different types of surgery such as ear surgery, base skull surgery, endoscopic sinus surgery (CENS), oral endoscopic laser or transoral endoscopic ultrasonic surgery (TOUSS). Also, the device has two cameras, two recording systems, Wi-Fi connection and a computer.
