The European Union has launched a new effort within the “Erasmus Plus Programme” in order to create innovative alliances among European Universities. The Universitat de València participates in the 2019 call, which includes a pilot programme that will support six alliances between European Universities. This programme has a budget of 30 million euros.

The Universitat de València will be part of an alliance between the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz (Germany), the Université de Bourgogne (France), the Uniwersytet Opolski (Poland) and the Jyväskylän yliopisto (Finland).

The project counts with the institutional support of the Universitat de València and its governing body, and will be coordinated by the Office of the Vice-Principal for International Relations and Cooperation. The Spanish Service for the Internationalisation of Education (SEPIE) also supports the programme to promote the collaboration in all academic fields among Spanish and European universities.

The alliance is called Bringing Europe Home and aims build and reinforce a European identity, encourage academic excellence and increase the competitiveness of the European institutions of higher education. Among other activities, it will encourage the creation of joint-degrees, inter-university research groups, exchange student projects and Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) to carry out joint courses offered in all the universities of the consortium.

The implementation of this effort is scheduled for the 2021 Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.  It aims to create almost 20 European universities until 2024.
