The Universitat de València’s Cultural Observatory presents the seminar 'The territorial perspective of culture: a look from the rural environment' at the La Nau Cultural Centre next Thursday, 29 February, at 18:00. It will try to explore the cultural horizon linked to the territory through municipal representatives of different local cultural realities

The seminar will be moderated by the coordinator of the Citizenship and Rurality programme of the Ministry of Culture and Sport, Benito Burgos, who will also be responsible for opening the meeting with the main lecture at the Aula Magna of La Nau. It will feature speeches by the mayors of Vilafranca del Cid, Silvia Colom; Potries, Sergi Vidal; Rótova, Jordi Puig; Carrícola, Pedro Altabert; and the town councillor for Art and Culture of Riba-roja del Turia, José Manuel Vila.

They will discuss the possibilities of opening up new spaces of participation to audiences with other sensibilities, based on the processes of linking with the territory and the rural environment, from the roots with the land, the recognition of their own identity and the connection with environmental issues.

The local representatives invited to this discussion forum will bring the audience closer to their own experiences of governance from the cultural experience as the centre of their management.

This approach to rural reality will provide the keys to a critical analysis of the territorial context, based on new patterns of thought and action for a new time. All of this starts from the reformulation and rewriting of the story of the rural world and its symbolic dimension, builds new spaces for meeting and relationship from a community perspective and, ultimately, leaves room for experimentation and innovation that mobilise the talent and ideas that the rural environment needs.

This face-to-face seminar will take place in the Aula Magna of the La Nau Cultural Centre. Anyone interested in taking part can sign up free of charge via the Observatori's website: https://www.uv.es/cultural-observatory/en/fundacio-general-observatori-cultural.html
