The Universitat de València is once again hosting the 3rd National Trauma Meeting and the 15th National Traffic Accident Meeting 2019, which will be held between 6 and 10 May at the Tarongers Campus. Students and professors from the Faculties of Nursing and Podiatry, Medicine and Dentistry, as well as from the Faculty of Psychology, will participate in these meetings.

As in previous editions, the Universitat de València, the Provincial Consortium of Firefighters of València, the Service of Sanitary Emergencies of the Valencian Community (SES-CV), and the Professional Association of Rescue in Traffic Accidents, (APRAT), have signed the project of the 3rd National Encounter of Trauma and 15th National Encounter of Trauma.

The presentation of the project took place on Monday 6 May at 12 noon in the manoeuvring area of the Tarongers Campus, by Elena Martínez, vice-rector of the Equality Unit; and Josep Bort, president of the County Consortium of Firefighters of València.

This project arises from the collaboration agreement between the County Consortium of Firefighters of València and the Universitat de València.

The main objective of this project is the exchange of experiences, knowledge and technical procedures in rescue situations, not only between the different professionals in the field of rescue and emergencies at national level, but also with students, technical staff and specialized teachers of the Universitat de València.

These meetings are mainly aimed at professionals or future professionals who face daily, in rescue operations, situations that require a high level of specialization and professional adaptability. Rescue techniques and procedures are promoted and improved in the first moments of an accident with victims.  Moments when the corresponding medical help may not yet have arrived and initial health action by firefighters is required.

Practical exercises that simulate these situations as real as possible are not available to all students.

As a guarantee of quality, it should be pointed out that this project is internationally endorsed by the World Rescue Organisation (WRO) and, at national level, by the Professional Association for Rescue in Traffic Accidents (APRAT).

In order to keep this project active, the collaboration of the Faculty of Nursing and Podiatry, the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, and, as a novelty this year, the Faculty of Psychology. After the experience of previous years, the need to include professionals and students of the Faculty of Psychology in order to integrate the residual emotional aspects of people directly or indirectly involved in a claim was highlighted. It is essential the psychological help or orientation of the health personnel and firefighters after the action in a rescue, and also to the own person who has suffered a loss.

There is also the participation of the Association of Students of Emergency Medicine (AESMES), as well as the unconditional support of Elena Martínez, vice-rector of the Equality Unit.

The Health and Safety and the Environment Service of the Universitat participates and co-directs this project as part of its social and moral responsibility.

In addition, it promotes and improves relations with services outside the Universitat, particularly in the areas of emergency medical assistance, rescue and firefighting. María José Vidal, director of the Service, and Cristina Mateo, safety technician, are responsible for the technical and project management by the Universitat.

This type of initiative benefits both rescue professionals and health professionals, teachers and students. The image of the Universitat and its students is promoted, professional orientation is broadened and the training of students of UV Health Sciences is improved and complemented for a better professional insertion in the world of emergencies and out-of-hospital emergencies.

Following the same premises as last year, simulated scenarios will be carried out that are as real as possible so that the best rescue action procedures can be applied and developed.  To complement the practical part, the project includes the realization of several technical tables where different topics of interest in emergency matters will be dealt with.

The combination of lectures and the performance in the different simulations scenarios make this event one of the most important in the national territory in terms of outpatient treatment of polytraumatized patients.
