The Cinema Club Babel celebrates its 5th anniversary this Thursday, 8 February. Resulting from an agreement between Babel Theatres and the Department of Language Theory and Communication Sciences of the Universitat de València, the initiative has turned into a whole cinematic event in the city of Valencia.

Over the years, more than fifty education professionals from different fields (Audiovisual Communication, Contemporary History, and Latin American Studies, amongst many others) pertaining to a variety of universities from Spain, Europe, and South America, as well as filmmakers and film critics, have celebrated with the audience screenings and colloquia to analyse major premieres. Babel Theatres projectors have shone the light of recent works of filmmakers such as Aki Kaurismäki, Hirozaku Koreeda, Wim Wenders, Pedro Almodóvar, Woody Allen, Clint Eastwood, and Julia Ducornau.

Every Thursday, at 19:00, members of the Cinema Club and the general public have the chance to attend the most interesting and frequently awarded proposals that international cinema has to offer. The different speakers break down and comment with the attendees on all the highlights of each tape, as well as on the social and political themes that each movie considers.
