The Governing Council of the Universitat de València approved on Tuesday a budget of €372 million for 2019. The document was presented by the manager, Juan Vicente Climent. Now, it has to be approved by the Social Council.

The budget is a 5.95% higher than then 2018 budget. One of the noted features is a reduction of 23.91% of the financial expenses that were planned and an increase of 16.14% of real investments.

The income obtained via student fees will be reduced an 8%, as it has been approved by the Council of the Valencian Government. The revenue grant of the Valencian Government is worth €233 million. Additionally, the Regional Council will do further investments for different purposes: balance the reduction of income by student fees, consolidate the professional career of the administrative and service staff or the implementation of the depreciation agreement of the historical debt.

The manager pointed out that the university is still being underfunded and asked for a funding plan for Valencian state universities.

Protocol against sex-based harassment
Mavi Mestre has also mentioned in her report the student protests in the Faculty of Philosophy and Education Sciences due to a possible case of sex-based harassment. The Principal expressed her support to the Deans’ management of the situation.  The rest of the deans have also expressed their support to the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Education Sciences.

The Principal expressed: “A series of protests denouncing the behaviour of a professor of the university have taken place recently. They have had an important impact in Spain and a Faculty was closed due to the demonstrations”. She added: “After meeting with the students, the protocol against harassment was activated. We have informed the deans and the director about this issue and we trust in the procedures that the Governing Council provided for the university. Once again the university confirms its commitment to guaranteeing the rights of all the members of the university community”.

As a result, a university committee is investigating the case assuring the confidentiality of the professor and students involved.

The Principal informed about the deceases of members of the university community. Rafael Guardiola, who was the executive manager of the Student Services of the Universitat de València between 1987 and 2007, passed away at the beginning of December.
