Around 200 secondary and upper secondary school teachers have registered for the 5th Chemistry Conference, which will take place on Saturday, April 17, live from the YouTube channel of the University’s Science Park. The aim of the conference is to bring teachers up to date with scientific advances of the subjects they teach and to find new patterns to improve students’ understanding of chemistry.

This edition of the conference will address three central topics –redox processes, green fuels and oxygen– through lectures by three experts: José María Moratal, professor of Inorganic Chemistry of the University of Valencia, who will try to provide new ways to approach complicated redox processes in the classroom; José Ramón Galán, ICREA professor in the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ), whose lecture will focus on artificial photosynthesis and energy storage through green fuels for the next energy transition, and Álvaro Martínez, a researcher in the Institute of Molecular Science (ICMol) of the University of Valencia and winner of the European Award of Scientific Dissemination 2020, who will focus on the oxygen molecule to explain the important role it plays in processes such as the development of neurodegenerative diseases or how it can be used to eliminate tumours, among others.

The conference will begin at 09:15 with speeches from the vice-principal for Employment and Training Services of the University of Valencia, M. Adela Valero; the vice-principal for Planning and Foresight of the Universitat Politècnica de València, M. Consuelo Jiménez, and the president of the Valencian territorial section of the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry (RSEQ), Carmen Ramírez de Arellano.

The session is part of the 125 Anniversary of the Faculty of Chemistry and will take place online from 09:15 to 14:00, live from the YouTube channel of the University of Valencia Science Park. It will be available by clicking here.

The conference is organised by the University of Valencia and the Universitat Politècnica de València, with the collaboration of the Delegation for University Integration and the Office of the Vice-principal for Employment and Training Services of the UV, the RSEQ-Valencian territorial section and the Science Park of the UV.
