The University of Valencia (UV) is the third Spanish higher education centre and the first Valencian one according to the latest updates of the University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) and Transparent Ranking: Top Universities by Citations in Top Google Scholar rankings. The former measures the quality and quantity of the scientific publications of each university and the latter, where the UV advances notably, keeps track of the citations of the scientific articles of each author of each entity.

In the URAP, and compared to the previous edition (2019-2020), the University of Valencia, in addition, advanced three positions on a European scale until reaching position 86. This ranking analyses 3,000 universities around the world, 500 more than the previous edition. The Valencian institution has also improved in the score of 5 of the 6 proposed quality indicators. The main objective of this tool is to develop a ranking system for universities worldwide based on academic results determined by the quality and quantity of academic publications.

On an international scale, the University of Valencia has been ranked 217th in the world, in a ranking led by Harvard, the University of Toronto and Stanford University. It is ranked 86th in Europe, led by the University College of London, Oxford and Cambridge; and in Spain (as in the previous edition), it is only surpassed by the University of Barcelona and the Autonomous University of Barcelona, in addition to continuing to lead the Valencian classification.

Regarding the score by indicators of the URAP ranking, the UV has gained positions in all of them (articles, international collaboration, total documents, impact of citations and articles), except in citations, where it barely decreased by 0.7%.

Regarding the Transparent Ranking, the University of Valencia has improved its world position significantly, moving to position 143 (240 last year), while at the European level it also climbs to 54th place (from 76). On a Spanish scale, it gains a position (from fourth to third), and remains the first Valencian higher education centre. Regarding citations of scientific articles, it has 418,450 more than the last edition (31%). Currently it has received 1,328,885.

Transparent Ranking is a version of the Webometrics ranking, which does not use the institutional profiles of Google Scholar Citations (GSC), at the request of many universities, but those of the authors of each institution. Google Scholar Citations offers authors an easy way to keep track of citations for their articles. You can check who is citing your posts, graph citations over time, and calculate various citation metrics. In this year’s edition, fewer institutions have been classified than in 2020 (4,318 by 3,750).
