The UV holds the first place in the medal count of the Spanish Championship among state universities

The Universitat de València ranks in 2019 as the first public university in the medal of the University Spain championships (CEU), occupies the second position in the general classification of universities, public and private, and leads the ranking of participating universities. This is indicated by the data collected in the activity report of the Spanish Committee College Sports (CEDU), an advisory body to the National Sports Council (CSD), which is drawn up annually by the Ministry's Directorate General for Sports.

In 2019, the Universitat de València won a total of 73 national medals, with 22 gold, 17 silver and 34 bronze. By categories: 25 in the men's category (11 gold, 4 silver and 10 bronze); 36 in the women's category (9 gold, 9 silver and 18 bronze); and 12 in the teams (2 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze).

In the general classification of universities, the UV was in second place behind the Catholic University of Murcia that consolidated the first place with a total of 126 medals.

 

Rest of Valencian universities

The medal of the rest of the Valencian universities won 27 medals for the Universitat Politècnica de València, followed by the 23 of the Universitat d'Alacant, 14 of the Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche, 10 of the Universidad Católica de Valencia and 9 of the Universitat Jaume I de Castelló.

 

UV, leader in sports participation

In terms of sporting participation, the Universitat de València was the first of all the participating universities, both public and private, with 342 sportspeople, 179 of whom were women and 163 men. It is followed by the Technical University of Madrid with 235 athletes and the Catholic University of Murcia with 226.

In addition, the Universitat de València organised four Spanish championships: handball, coaching, triathlon and archery. The competitions were held between March 2nd and May 20th, with more than 4,000 athletes.

The overall participation in the Spanish University Championships was 5,068 people, of which more than 4,000 athletes competed in the 29 championships held.

European

As for the medal of the European Championships, the Universitat de València is positioned as the second Spanish university behind the University of Málaga (the UMA occupies eighth place in the ranking and fifteenth UV). The UV closes its participation with 2 gold, 2 silver and two bronze.

The Universitat de València participated in the European judo, taekwondo and karate competitions held in Zagreb (Croatia). In judo, the judoca María Ruiz won gold, Marc Sabater won silver and by teams, they were runners-up, in taekwondo, Noelia Grao won gold and Javier Pastor won bronze, and in karate, bronze for men's teams. The UV was also represented in the European women's handball (eighth place) and women's volleyball (fifth place), both played in Poland.

All the results endorse the Universitat de València's commitment and support for university sport.
