The European University Football Championships was held from 25 June to 2 July in Tirana, Albania.

More than 500 female footballers representing 28 universities from 16 countries took part in this European University Sports Association (EUSA) championship. Each sporting competition takes place in a different European city and is organised by one of the EUSA member universities. The 2023 football championship, hosted by the University of Tirana (Albania), consisted of several exciting matches and was a real showcase for Europe's best university athletes.

The UV women's team started the tournament in group C, where they managed to win enough matches to qualify for the quarter-finals. In the quarter-finals, the UV players beat the University of Barcelona 3-0, a victory that catapulted them to the semi-finals where they faced the University of Lyon (France). The UV team gave their all on the pitch and beat the French 4 goals to 0. Finally, in the final, the Valencian women faced the team from the University of Brodeaux (France), but they did not manage to secure the win and finished the championship with a commendable silver medal.

"The 14 girls who played in Albania did an incredible job," says the team's coach, Javier Gómez, who together with the assistant coach, José Miguel López, the physiotherapist, Luis Vicente Valero, and the head coach of the delegation, Joan Gandía, accompanied the players on their European experience. "We are very happy and proud of the players, not only for their work both on and off the field. The responsibility they have demonstrated honoured the name of the Universitat de València," said the coach.

"We are very happy with the end result. We didn’t manage to win the final match because we were up against a team that had been playing together for many years with first division players, but our players stood up to them and showed them that they had a reason to be feared," explains Javier Gómez. But beyond achieving the second-place title, the team takes away a great experience, "competing at the European level is incredible, the players are grateful and so are we because it has been an unforgettable experience," concludes the coach of the European university runners-up.
