The sportswomen and sportsmen of the Universitat de València continue to increase the number of medals during the Spanish University Championships. This week the volleyball and chess selections have won three bronze medals: two third places for the men's and women's volleyball selections, respectively, and the bronze medal in chess for the player Paco Sánchez, in the men's individual.

The volleyball teams of the Universitat de València started the CEU playing in a complicated group, as both teams of the UV, male and female, had to face the great favourite university of the championship, UCAM.  The boys fell in their first match against the university Murcia, but with the victory of the two remaining games.  Their coach, Juanjo Susín, states: "The boys did really well with the game against Almería, which was the game that by level of play we understood was the one that was going to make the difference," match that the boys of the UV closed with 3-0. In the third day and last day of the championship, the team faced the University of Barcelona, winning 3-1. “The feeling of the university that they create between them has served to be able to gather them and to take the medal to us", Susín emphasizes.

For its part, the women's team also shared the context of their colleagues, playing in the same group of UCAM.  In the two previous championships in Spain, the girls played the final against Murcia, staying on the brink of gold. This year, the team faced UCAM in the first match of the championship and could not face them. As their coach Juanjo Susín explains "from there you worry about winning, about winning the other two to try to secure the bronze medal and that's what we did. Finally, the girls won the bronze medal beating the Polytechnic University of Madrid 1 - 3 and the University of Valladolid 3 - 0.

Chess, men's singles bronze

In the chess CEU, Paco Sánchez won the bronze medal. "We haven't had a medal in the CEU in a long time, congratulations Paco", this was the message published by Ramón García, coach of the national team, in the @AjedrezSEFUV Twitter account.  Also, Garcia also launched the following message through the same channel: "Also highlight the performance of Paula Martinez.  She has done a spectacular tournament with five points, scoring for the team, and qualifying as the best female.
