Women represent 54 per cent of students at the Public Universities of Valencia and 56 per cent of the younger Teaching and Research Staff

Public Valencian Universities are forming 125.236 people during this course 2017/2018. Out of total number of students, 67.697 are women, which accounts for 54%. Women outnumber men in both master’s degree and degrees, with a percentage of the total of 55% and 53%, respectively. Regarding the doctoral programme, there are equality, with 4.254 male students and 4.255 female students.

 Women are also over-represented among the administrative and service personnel, with a 59,5 per cent of female workers. In the case of teaching and research area, the equality is not yet achieved between professors and women professors of the Valencian universities. The overall representation of women is 40 per cent of the total, compared with the 60 per cent of men.

However, developments in recent years of the teaching staff shows an approximation to the equality. It is possible to see if the age range from data of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport are analysed. Meanwhile women teachers over 60 years represent slightly more than 24 per cent of the total of teaching staff that are over this age. Women professors between 30 and 35, and also 35 and 40 years represent now 56 and 50 per cent respectively, of the teacher staff of these age group. These data show the progressive inclusion of women and the generational development to an equal university also in the teachers field.

The platform SIUVP (System of Indicators from Valencian Public Universities), which collects information on Valencian public universities, has incorporated in its data last update regarding to the number of people who take part in the community college, gender differentiation. In other words, is provided the graphic of the Valencian university system from 2017/2018, distinguishing the number of men and women in relation to students, professors and researchers and administrative personnel.

Furthermore, the web site has updated 11 indicators in the areas that provide information on internationalization, human resources and research and transfer (patent filings and bibliometrics). The information collected in the SIUVP data base, which is the result of a collective work by the Valencian public universities and the Valencia Institute of Economic Research (Ivie), comprises from the most academic aspects such as the teaching staff’s supply and demand, to the mots specific financial data about resources and results of the agenda of each university.

This platform joins the five Valencian public universities: Universitat de València, University of Alacant, Universitat Jaume I of Castellón, Miguel Hernández University of Elche and Universitat Politècnica de València.
