The Universitat de València promotes physical activity among older people with the celebration of the 8th Iaios Training Festival

On Friday, 11 April, the Servei d’Esports wing of the Universitat de València hosted the eighth edition of Iaios Training Festival, a session dedicated to encourage the health and well-being of older people through physical and sporting activity in a fun and participative environment.
Organised by the Servei d’Esports and the UIRFIDE research group (GIUV2013-140), in collaboration with the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences (FCAFE) and the Department of Physical and Sports Education, the festival reflects the commitment of the Universitat de València with active aging and the promotion of healthy habits in all stages of life.
In addition to favouring physical exercise among the elder population, this initiative allows students of the degree of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences to develop professional competencies through the direct participation in the organization and promotion of this activities, gaining practical experience in a real context.
During the session multiple workshops adapted to different levels of physical condition and mobility were offered, among them were included:
- EFAM-UV© (functional training for older people)
- Chair Dancing
- Dance
- Tai chi
- Stretching and gentle gymnastics
- Nordic Walking
- Cognitive stimulation and orientation games
- Merengue and dance
- Line dance
The festival had the participation of older people coming from different locations such as Algimia d’Alfara, Buñol, Burjassot, Cheste, Sagunto, Setaigües and Torrent, as well as entities like the Gesmed Foundation, La Nau Gran and the FCAFE itself.
With this initiative, the Universitat de València reinforces its role as a committed institution for intergenerational well-being and the development of programmes that places physical activity as a cornerstone for quality of life.
