A little bit of history

The "Pelegrí Casanova" Library of Health Sciences was founded as the Library of the Faculty of Medicine in 1891, at that time located in Guillem de Castro Street. The initial nucleus of its collection came from the segregation of the medical volumes of the General Library of the University carried out by José Nebot Pérez, its first librarian.

With the transfer of the Faculty to its current location on the Blasco Ibáñez campus between 1954 and 1960, the library also moved to this new site.

In 2009, after six years of remodelling work on the Faculty, the construction of the new "Pelegrí Casanova" Library of Health Sciences in the central courtyard of the building was completed and the collections of the libraries of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and the Schools of Nursing and Physiotherapy were reunited. It was in the same decade that the historical collection was moved to the Palau de Cerveró as the original nucleus of the "Vicent Peset Llorca" Historical-Medical Library.

Currently, the "Pelegrí Casanova" Library of Health Sciences is the area library for the degrees of Medicine, Odontology, Physiotherapy, Nursing and Podiatry.
