The Oscilador Armónico podcast, which is recorded from the Institute of Corpuscular Physics (IFIC), a joint centre of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Valencia, has been a finalist in the science category in the iVoox 2023 Awards. These Awards are granted by the iVoox platform, the most popular in the world of Spanish-speaking podcasts, following the vote of the audience, who chooses its favourites in each of the categories.

The aim of Oscilador Armónico is the dissemination of physics and mathematics. The main course of each of its programs is an entertaining and dynamic discussion with a person who specialises in an area of physics, usually an active researcher. In addition, each program also has various short themed sections devoted to specific topics. It can be listened to on the main podcasting platforms: iVoox, Spotify, Google podcasts and Apple podcasts.

Oscilador Armónico Harmonic Oscillator began its journey at the beginning of 2023 with the help of a team formed by IFIC members Enrique Nácher, Valentina De Romeri, Alberto Aparici and Avelino Vicente, who were joined by Isabel Cordero, professor at the Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Valencia. It has also had the collaboration of two IFIC students: Belén Samper and José Antonio Victoria, and Sergio Agramunt as a sound technician. For much of this first year, the podcast has had financial support from the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), which has allowed Antonio Rivera, a well-known and experienced host of science programs, to join the team.

The iVoox platform is the most popular in the world of podcasts in Spanish. The iVoox Awards were born with the aim of giving the visibility and recognition that creators deserve, making the audience choose their favourites. On November 7, it was announced that the Harmonic Oscillator was among the 10 finalists in the science category. The winners were announced recently, on November 16 at the iVoox Awards gala, whose sixth edition has broken all records: more than 1,600 podcasts have participated and more than 55,000 listeners have voted for their favourite programs with more than 180,000 votes. In the words of Alberto Aparici, member of the Harmonic Oscillator team, “finding ourselves among the greats after only one year of existence is a true triumph”.

Despite its short life, Oscilador Armónico has already become one of the most followed popular science podcasts in Spanish in the world. With its 37 programs to date, it has received a whopping 275,000 listens, which gives an average of almost 7,500 listens per program. Most of its followers come from Spain, but the program also has many followers from other Spanish-speaking countries. In addition to the recognitions that support its success, it is also among the finalists for the Best Audience Podcast Award 2023 awarded by the Podcasting Listeners Association (ASESPOD).

Several members of IFIC and Professor Isabel Cordero of the Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Valencia regularly participate in two other important scientific dissemination podcasts, also finalists for the iVoox 2023 Awards: Coffee Break: Signal and Noise – which has also been the category winner – and A Ciencia Cierta. Science interests a society that seeks to access it through podcasts.
