The University of Valencia and the Alzira City Council have announced the 29th European Award for Scientific Dissemination "Estudi General", in collaboration with Edicions Bromera, in the framework of the Ciutat d'Alzira awards. The prize is worth 12,000 euros and the deadline for submitting original works is Friday 15 September.

The aim of the award is to stimulate the creation and dissemination of works which, using understandable language, make scientific and technological advances accessible to the general public, and to pre-university students in particular, as well as the dissemination of interesting aspects of the various branches of knowledge. The winning book will be co-published in Valencian version by Edicions Bromera and the Publications Service of the UV, within the collection "Sense Fronteres".

Essays on the popular dissemination of scientific and technological knowledge written in Valencian or any other variety of this language, in Spanish, English or French and between 250,000 and 300,000 characters in length (spaces included) are eligible for this prize. Additional materials in the text must be original, copyright free or contain the appropriate permission to reproduce. The call is not open to those who have already won prizes in previous editions and, as in the previous edition, texts from bachelor's and master's degree theses, doctoral theses and scientific articles will be excluded.

In order to participate, the works should be presented preferably on the online office of the UV (http://webges.uv.es/uvEntreuWeb), or they can also be handed in on paper at the Registry Office of the institution (Av.  Blasco Ibáñez 13, 46010, València). Works must be original and unpublished and will be evaluated anonymously by the jury using the following criteria: scientific interest and coherence (maximum 3 points), creativity and originality (3), clarity of exposition and structure of the text (3 points), and correct use of syntax and spelling rules (1).

The jury of the 2023 edition will be made up of Rosa M. Donat, Vice-Principal and President of Innovation and Transfer; Carolina Moreno, director of the collection “Sense Fronteres”; José Ramón Alonso, winner of the 28th edition of this award; Anabel Forte, researcher of the Department of Statistics and Operational Research of the University of Valencia; and Juan Nácher, researcher of the Cellular Biology, Functional Biology and Physical Anthropology Department of the University of Valencia.

The prize will be awarded on the same day as the other "Ciutat d'Alzira" awards, on the evening of Friday 10th November 2023, during a literary dinner at which the winners, in addition to the cash prize, will receive the trophy designed by Manuel Boix, symbol of the "Ciutat d'Alzira" Literary Awards.
