Five Valencian research institutions, including the University of Valencia (UV), have announced the eighth edition of the video contest “De major vull ser com...” (“When I grow up, I want to be like…”). The competition is open to compulsory secondary, upper secondary and vocational education students from any school in the Valencian Community, with prizes totalling €16,000.
The contest, supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology, aims to highlight the crucial role that women have played and continue to play in scientific and technological disciplines, to make visible the impact of patriarchal structures on these women’s lives and careers and to inspire young girls and adolescents to pursue careers in science and technology.
Participation may be individual or in groups of up to 10 members, and registrations must be submitted via the educational institution. Schools can submit an unlimited number of videos until 20 January 2025 at 11.59 p.m.
The contest is jointly organised by the University of Valencia, the Fisabio Foundation, the INCLIVA Health Research Institute, the Alicante Institute for Health and Biomedical Research (ISABIAL) and the Foundation of the Valencian Community General Hospital for Biomedical Research, Teaching and Development of Health Sciences (Fundación HGUV).
The €16,000 prize fund is intended for the purchase of technological and/or scientific materials for the schools. The prizes are: best script, best audiovisual production, most innovative selection of a character and audience award for best video.
Each category offers a €2,000 prize. Of this amount, €1,000 will go for the school’s acquisition of scientific or technological materials. The remaining €1,000 will go to the students involved in creating the winning video, also to be used for technological or educational materials.
The jury of the competition — made up of experts in equality, science, education and research, as well as in the field of creation and culture, especially in audiovisual communication — will evaluate entries based on originality and creativity; quality of the message; effective use of internet tools and communication resources to spark interest in science, technology and innovation; and the impact of the video to showcase the achievements of selected women and to promote gender equality in this field. Participants must upload their videos to the EasyPromos platform via the link provided by the organising entities.
