La ubicuidad del imán: un mundo magnético, (‘The ubiquity of the magnet: a magnetic world’), the work that has won the European Award for the Dissemination of Science in this year’s call, has as its fundamental objective to visualise the impact of magnetism in our daily and future lives.

The work tells us about the most recent advances and applications of magnetism while analysing its history to understand the difficulty they entail, but above all their importance, since life itself on our planet is linked to the existence of a terrestrial magnetic field that protects us from high radiation.

“Although we live in a world where magnetism accompanies us throughout our lives, most people are really unaware of what it is, how it works and the enormous role it plays”, explains Francesc Lloret.

The vice-rector for Innovation and Transfer of the University of Valencia, Rosa Donat, has highlighted that “The increase in the level of the works submitted each year gives a good example of the quality and level of the disseminators, and we are pleased to increase our collections with their works”.

The jury was chaired by Rosa M. Donat, vice-rector for Innovation and Transfer; and Carolina Moreno, full professor of Journalism and director of the “Sense Fronteres” book collection, in which the winning work will be published, took part. Also included were José Ramón Alonso, winner of the 28^th edition of this award, the last one awarded; Anabel Forte, researcher at the Department of Statistics and Operations Research (UV); and Juan Nácher, researcher at the Department of Cellular Biology, Functional Biology and Physical Anthropology (UV).

Trajectory

Francesc Lloret Pastor has been a postdoctoral researcher and has worked as a professor at several university institutions. He has published nearly 700 articles in highly prestigious scientific journals and his contributions have been recognised with national and international awards, such as the Research Excellence Award of the RSEQ, the Catalan-Sabatier Award of the French Society of Chemistry and the Award for the Distinguished Research Career from the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry. Furthermore, he is an Honorary Doctor from the University of Bucharest.

Gala

Winners in the different modalities of the “Ciutat d’Alzira” Literary Awards have collected the trophy designed by Manuel Boix today, Friday, November 10, in a gala with 600 people attended by, among others, personalities from the cultural and political world. A total of 11 works have been submitted in this edition of the European Award for the Dissemination of Science.
