Beatriz Gallardo, professor in General Linguistics at the Universitat de València has received the honourable mention 2017 of the magazine “Pensamiento al margen” because of her career as a researcher. This honour recognizes the research carried out by Gallardo in analysing the political speech, as well as the basis of her work standards, in which she suggests a model of analysis for cognitive-based political texts.

The scientific career of Beatriz Gallardo is focused in pragmatics from a theoretical and practical approach. From the theoretical perspective, she has been pioneer in the introduction of conversation analysis within the Hispanic background. She proposed her own descriptive model based on perceptive cognitive linguistics that she crystallized in her books Secuencias and Análisis conversacional y pragmática del receptor.

Since 2013, this researcher form the Universidad de Valencia has concentrated on the analysis of the political speech. In this area, two of her books entitled Usos políticos del lenguaje and Pseudopolítica: el discurso político en las redes sociales should be outlined. The latter was a joint publication with the journalist Salvador Enguix from La Vanguardia.  They analyse how political issues are addressed in social media and develop the concept “pseudo-political speech”, which is limited to the side-lines of politics “without merging with the discursive sphere that really focuses on the government for the common good”.

Beatriz Gallardo is also author of the book Evolución de lenguas y tipología addressing issues related to linguistic typology.  As a researcher she has also studied the development of clinical linguistics. In this aspect, we must outline her management of the pathological language corpus PerLa and her studies on conversational skills in speakers who suffer aphasia.  She has also carried out studies on conversational skills in speakers who suffer other pathologies such as injuries in the right half of the brain, the Williams syndrome and the attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.
