The Biology Olympiad bring togheter at the University of Valencia 275 high school students

A total of 275 Biology students from the second year of High school from 61 public and private centers in the province of Valencia took part this Friday (17 of february, at the XX Edition of the Biology Olimpiad (Autonomic Phase), organized by the Faculty of Biological Sciences of the University of Valencia and for the Delegation for the University Incorporation.

The test, which was held at the same time in Alicante (with 121 participants), Castelló (96) and Valencia (275), was attended by 66.9% girls and 33.1% boys.

In Valencia, the participating students were summoned at 4 p.m. in the Aulario Interfacultatiu of the Burjassot-Paterna Campus of the University of Valencia. The exam was  anonymous and consisted of a test about the contents of the program of Biology and Geology subject of 4th ESO and 1st of high school, referring to the contents of Biology (excluding the contents of Geology) and the program of  Biology of 2nd of high school contained in the Decree 102/2008 of July 11, 2008. DOC 5806 (excluding 'Microbiology and Immunology. Applications').

On this occasion, and on the occasion of the celebration of the XX UV Biology Olympiad, the registered students had the opportunity to participate in the contest 'What do you know about biology', and opt for one of the 20 prizes that were  raffled on Friday, February 17 among those attending the test.

In this special edition, in addition to the study grants that the 10 best classified in the Local Phase of the XX Biology Olympic Games (according to the published rules), there will be 10 Special Mentions and, all of them, will have the opportunity to participate in activities aimed at stimulating scientific vocations.

The students who win the Biology Olympiad of Valencia will participate in the NATIONAL PHASE to be held at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, from 23 to 26 March 2023.

From the total number of participants in the National Phase, the top eight will be selected to represent Spain in the international phases in 2023. These students will receive a week of specific theoretical and practical preparation to participate in the international phases.

The top four will represent Spain at the XXXIV International Biology Olympiad (IBO 2023), to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from July 3 to 11.

The four runners-up will represent Spain at the XVI Ibero-American Biology Olympiad, to be held in September in Madrid (Spain).

The Biology Olympiads 2023 have the collaboration of the Official College of Biologists of the Valencian Community and the Spanish Biology Olympiad Association.
