The event, which will begin at 6 p.m., will be presided over by the President of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, and will be attended by the Principal of the Universitat de València, M. Vicenta Mestre; the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Javier Chorro; and the director and coordinator of the work, Josep Lluís Barona.

The book entitled “La Facultad de Medicina de València. Cinco siglos de Historia” is the result of the joint work of around twenty historians from various institutions such as the Universitat de València, the Miguel Hernández University and the Catholic University of Valencia and also from various CSIC institutes that have been directed and coordinated by the full university professor of History of Science at the Universitat de València, Josep Lluís Barona.

The Faculty of Medicine of the UV was an avant-garde institution and a pioneer in professional specialisation, treasuring and disseminating Renaissance humanism during the medieval period, particularly the anatomical reform, paracelsism, atomism and medical botany.

The text updates the most recent research and takes a journey through Valencian medical history, its revolution during the Renaissance and the Baroque, the periods of decadence and crisis, the reforms carried out and the current reality. The book also pays tribute to the figure of Juan Peset Aleixandre, principal and full university professor of Legal Medicine.
