The Faculty of Nursing and Podiatry of the Universitat de València holds this Friday 29th September the conference ‘Investing in Sexual and Reproductive Health’. The meeting is framed within the World Contraception Day and World Sexual Health Day 2017 which is celebrated the 4th and 29th September respectively.

That is the reason why, from midday, Felipe Hurtado, clinical psychologist and sexologist of the Sexual and Reproductive Health Centre of la Fuente de San Luís will talk about ‘Sexual rights: present and future’.

The meeting is framed within the World Contraception Day and World Sexual Health Day 2017 with the slogan ‘Love and privacy in the sexual health; a possibility for everyone’ it is expected to inform and to train the university community. The event will take place in the lecture room 2.2 of the faculty from 12 to 14.

As it gathers the World Health Organisation (WHO), the sexuality is a central aspect of the human being, which is present along his life. Sexuality includes sex, gender identities and expressions, eroticism, privacy and reproduction. Besides, the birth-control is a fundamental base for the full development of the sexual and reproductive health. People have to be free to choose which method is more adjusted to their lifestyle and personal values. But it is also necessary to know all of them to favour this free choice.

Thus, each year since 2010, 4th September takes place the World Sexual Health Day in order to promote a greater sexual health awareness around the world and the sexual rights. Additionally, the World Contraception Day takes place 29th September. It is aimed to promote the knowledge and use of secure and effective contraceptives.

That is the reason why, from midday, Felipe Hurtado, clinical psychologist and sexologist of the Sexual and Reproductive Health Centre of la Fuente de San Luís will talk about ‘Sexual rights: present and future’. Then, Rosa Pellicer, midwife and nurse of the same centre will talk about ‘The role of nursing in sexual and reproductive health’. Francisco Donat, gynaecologist of the same health centre and full university professor of Nursing in Maternal and Child Health of la Universitat, will give the talk ‘History of the sexual and reproductive health centres’. The conference will end with Maria Antonia Obiol, gynaecologist and doctor of the same centre, who will also address the issue of the ‘Contraception in young population’.
