The LASER Talks (Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvous) project in Valencia is organised by the Polytechnic University of Valencia, in collaboration with the University of Valencia and Las Naves. The meeting, under the title “Interdisciplinary challenges in the pre-doctoral phase. Art and science in the doctorate” will be on Friday, January 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Las Naves. The architect Amanda Ramón and the artist Patricia Cadavid will participate. The activity will close with the presentation of two pieces by both guests.

In this act, for which prior registration will be required, a debate is organised with two researchers in the initial phases, who will talk about the relevance of interdisciplinarity in research, the union between the creative and the technological, and will express a multiple perspective who understands research as a collaborative project.

The LASER Talks València project is promoted by the UPV Vice President for Art, Science, Technology and Society, and is co-directed by an interdisciplinary team headed by Moisés Mañas, artist and professor of Fine Arts at the UPV, and Guillermo Muñoz Matutano, researcher at the Institute of Materials Sciences (IcMol) of the UV and member of the team of the association “Piratas de la Ciencia”.

Amanda Ramón, graduated in architecture from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, has training in new technologies and methodologies for the digital modelling of buildings. Currently, she is a doctoral candidate at the “3D Visual Computing and Robotics” laboratory of the University of Castilla-La Mancha, and she is carrying out her thesis on thermal models of buildings made semiautomatically. She does outreach related to engineering and STEM in the fields of fashion and architecture in her YouTube project “A Escala”, as well as being a member of the “Scenio” cultural and scientific outreach community.

Patricia Cadavid graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Castilla-La Mancha and has a Master’s Degree in Visual Arts and Multimedia (Polytechnic University of Valencia) and a Master’s Degree in Art from the Interface Cultures program (Kunstuniversität Linz). Her work has been exhibited at festivals such as ArsElectronica (Austria), ADAF (Greece), the NIME conference, and various venues in the United States, Chile, Mexico, Spain, Germany, and Colombia.

The activity will close with the presentations of two pieces by the guests. Amanda Ramón will screen a video from her personal channel where she links architecture, technology, and fashion, while Patricia Cadavid, in turn, will present her audiovisual performance “Khipu_electrónico”, based on the manipulation of an experimental sound instrument.
