Next Wednesday 18 October at 7 pm, the Gandia International Centre will host a conference by Isabel Morant, Full University Professor of History at the Universitat de València. This event will mark the start of the La Nau Gran academic year, although the conference will be open to the general public.

Isabel Morant, Full University Professor of History at the Universitat de València, will visit the Gandia International Centre next Wednesday 18 October to deliver a lecture entitled Overcoming the limits of world representation. The history of women

In her speech, the historian will provide a retrospective on the history of women and the need to know it. As she explains: “When we started studying women’s history in the 1970s, we didn’t ask ourselves about its possibilities or its relevance, it had to be done. Women existed, but historians – who focused on general history – considered that women had not played an important role in History, written in capital letters, which was considered relevant”. In her speech, Morant will explain how, powered by feminism, the history of women is now a reality, expanding our knowledge on women and men and writing a more accurate and fairer history.

Isabel Morant Deusa was born in 1947 in Almoines (València). First, she studied Teaching at the Universitat de València and became a teacher, and then she studied History. She has always been involved in anti-Francoist opposition movements and participated in the València Women’s Assembly. She was Vice-Principal of University Extension at the Universitat de València from 1984 to 1990, where she organised the first set of conferences on Feminist Studies and the Summer University of Gandia. In addition, she directed the book collection Feminismos. She specialised in Women’s History and Gender Studies, and is the author of numerous books and publications.
