The Philharmonic Orchestra of the Universitat de València and the Young Choir of the Orfeó Català will interpret, on the 18 May (11:30h) in the Palau de la Música of the city, Mozart’s ‘Requiem’ in a tribute concert to the victims of the Dana of 29 October 2024. Furthermore, the earnings of the tickets sold (available in the Palau webpage) will be allocated to the Grant and Post-Dana Recuperation Programme of the Universitat.

With the strong conviction that “music nurtures the spirit”, the principal director of the Philharmonic Orchestra UV, Hilari Garcia Gázquez, take on this “challenge” taking the lead of a concert “of great complexity” in which orchestral elements converge in perfect harmony with choir voices and the four valencian soloists of great prestige voices: Blanca Ruiz (soprano), Isabel Marí (mezzosoprano), Gonzalo Manglano (tenor) and Vicente Antequera(baritone).

The Requiem, K. 626, of W. A. Mozart, in the “most outstanding” version of the work, which had to be finished by one of the closer collaborators of the German composer, his student Süssmayr, will sound in an emblematic context both for its affective and emotional character, support, help and recovery towards the people who were recently affected by the tragedy in the south of Valencia, as the year in which it is performed: the 30.º anniversary of the Orchestra of the Universitat de València, with 80 young emerging musicians.

To commemorate the day of the anniversary, thePhilharmonic Orchestra UV has organised a programme of activities in which the cultural and young exchange with the Young Choir of the Orfeó Catalàis included, repeating the Requiem of Mozart-Süssmayr in the Palau de la Música Catalana, in Barcelona, the day 24 May..

Both groups are characterised by young people and the talent of its members, as well as to share a common mission: to enhance the musical and humane training of their members through the interpretation of a high quality repertoire prepared by specialised professionals.

Here it is included the mass of the dead that Mozart composed in his last life stage and which he could not finish. According to Hilari Garcia, the music in this Requiem is “extraordinary for moments of memory and emotion” for its extreme eloquence that encompass “from the most absolute drama to the celestial glory”. “We could then feel all its dramatic-expressive content, it will be skin-deep music”, he stated.

A work, definitively, “fascinated, enigmatic and deep that explore universal themes like life, death and redemption”; full “of emotion and intensity” which has captivated the audience for centuries, situating it as “indisputable” reference in the world of classic music, and that now in Valencia, in hand with young interpreters, is becoming one of the most symbolic concerts of the year due to its meaning and dimension that it adopts surrounded by emotion and hope.
