The University of Valencia (UV) and the Alzira City Council have convened the XXIX «Estudi General» European Award for the Dissemination of Science, in collaboration with Edicions Bromera, within the framework of the Premis Literaris Ciutat d’Alzira. The award is endowed with 12,000 euros and the period for submitting originals ends on Friday, September 15.

The award aims to stimulate the creation and dissemination of works that, with an understandable language, make available to the general public, and to pre-university students in particular, scientific and technological advances and also the dissemination of interesting aspects of the different areas of knowledge. The award-winning book will be co-published, in the Valencian version, by Edicions Bromera and the UV Publications Service, within the «Sense Fronteres» collection.

Essays for popular dissemination of scientific and technological knowledge written in Valencian or any other variety of this language, in Spanish, English or French with a length between 250,000 and 300,000 characters (including spaces) are eligible for this award. The additional materials in the text must be original, free of rights or contain the corresponding reproduction permission. People who have already been awarded in previous editions will not be able to participate in the call and, as in the previous edition, texts from end-of-degree projects, master’s thesis, doctoral theses and scientific articles will be excluded.

To participate, works can be submitted preferably through the virtual office of the University of Valencia (http://webges.uv.es/uvEntreuWeb), or they can also be delivered on paper at the General Registry of the institution (Av. Blasco Ibáñez 13, 46010, Valencia). The works must be original and unpublished, and will be evaluated by the jury anonymously with the following criteria: scientific interest and coherence (up to 3 points), creativity and originality (3), expository clarity and text structure (3 points), and correct use of grammar and spelling (1).

The jury for the 2023 edition will be formed by Rosa M. Donat, vice-rector for Innovation and Transference, who will preside; Carolina Moreno, director of the «Sense Fronteres» collection; José Ramón Alonso, winner of the 28th edition of this award; Anabel Forte, researcher at the Department of Statistics and Operational Research (UV); and Juan Nácher, researcher at the Department of Cellular Biology, Functional Biology and Physical Anthropology of the academic institution.

The prize will be awarded on the same date as the rest of the Premis Ciutat d’Alzira, that is, on November 10, 2023, during a literary awards dinner in which winners will receive the cash prize and a trophy, designed by Manuel Boix and symbol of the Premis Literaris Ciutat d’Alzira.
