The expert in feminism, Pilar Aguilar, will give a lecture on October 29 titled “Feminismo o barbarie” in the framework of the season “Dones creadores” (Creative women). This series, which has been organised by the Lluís Vives European School of Thought and the Equality Unit of the University of Valencia, will take place in the Aula Magna of La Nau at 19h.

The aim of this talk is to encourage reflection and debate, which have always been crucial in the feminist movement. According to Pilar Aguilar, analysis should motivate the analysis even more because there are new generations of women who are well aware of inequality. It also crucial because the feminist agenda still needs to tackle many issues, such as control of the sexuality of women, the use and abuse of their bodies, emotional manipulation, labour and domestic exploitation and violence which attacks, abuses and kills them.

The expert in feminism states that the fictional media that we consume reproduces ideologies, imageries, affective maps and sentimental feelings of patriarchy and sexism. In order to debunk the myth of it being natural and not a social construction, Aguilar uses analysis to “make visible what remains invisible”.

Pilar Aguilar graduated from Educational Sciences in the University René Descartes of Paris and from Cinematography and Audiovisual Sciences of the University Denis Diderot of Paris. “Fiction as instruments for sentimental education in Modernity” and “Sexuality in the audiovisual fiction, scenifications of violence” are some of the works of Aguilar which combine both fields of study.

Pilar Aguilar has been awarded several times during her career. Among them, she has received the Award for Progressive Women of València, El Club de las 25 award, the Meridiana de la Junta de Andalucía award and the reward as a Golden Godmother of the Godmother Association of Gijón.

The entry to her conference is free and limited to the capacity of the room.
