The Universitat celebrates the International Romani Day with ‘Conversations on campus’

The Universitat de València celebrates a new discussion of the cycle Converses als campus (‘Conversations on campus.’) On this occasion the discussion will deal with the challenges of Romani people in the academic ambit. It will take place on Wednesday, the 10th of April, at 7p.m., in the hall of the Faculty of Law. The participants are: Silvia Agüero, Nicolas Jiménez, Josefa Santiago, Jerónimo Moreno and Antonio Santiago. And the moderator will be Ana Giménez.

The cycle Converses al campus started last year with a dynamic and informative format that looks for contemporary reflections and debates about diversity in the Universitat. The conversations and experiences between the different actors motivates people to participate and to the active reflection of the academic community.

On the occasion of the International Romani Day, the 8th of April, the discussion will approach specific challenges in the university. Among other topics, the discussion will deal with the in/visibility of the university Romani people; access to university; knowledge, recognition and dissemination of the Romani history, culture and language in the academic contents and research, as well as with the stigmatization and the lack of professional prospects.

In the discussion, moderated by Ana Giménez, professor at the Jaume I University, will participate Silvia Agüero, a Romani, mother, feminist and a collaborator in Pikara Magazine; Nicolas Jiménez, sociology and co-author of the Guía de recursos contra el antigitanismo; Josefa Santiago, a Romani social worker, feminist, activist and Vice-President of the Romani women association Arakerando; Jerónimo Moreno and Antonio Santiago, students of the Universitat de València.

The discussion will take place on Wednesday, the 10th of April, at 7p.m., in the hall of the Faculty of Law of the Universitat de València. The entry is free until seating capacity.

This debate pertains to the initiative of equality diversitats, boosted by the Office of the Vice-Principal of Equality, Diversity and Sustainability of the Universitat de València and joins the organised activities by the ‘Conselleria de Igualdad y Políticas Inclusivas’ in conjunction with Valencia’s city hall.
