Christmas concert by the UV Philharmonic Orchestra at the Charles Darwin Hall (Burjassot Campus)

The musical ensembles of the Universitat de València will once again take part in the traditional Christmas concerts with eight recitals scheduled in December in various venues and towns in the Valencian Community.

The first of these concerts, by the La Nau UV Coral School, will take place on Monday 11. Under the direction of Mònica Perales i Massana, the choir will perform popular Christmas carols in the Muralla Hall of the Principal Peset Hall of Residence at 19:00.

The next Christmas event will be given by the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Universitat de València on Thursday 14. The Serrano Theatre in Gandia will host the first of the three concerts planned by the Philharmonic Orchestra for this Christmas, starting at 19:00. Conducted by Hilari Garcia Gázquez, the university ensemble will perform Carl Nielsen’s suite from ‘Aladdin’ (op. 34), a selection from Aram Khachaturian’s ‘Masquerade’ and ‘Tres cançons populars nadalenques’ (“Three popular Christmas songs”) by Pascual Martínez.

On Wednesday 20 at 19:30, the Orchestra will return to the José Iturbi Hall of the Palau de la Música of Valencia to perform a concert especially dedicated to children, in which they will be accompanied by the academy Cordes Espai Educatiu, as well as by children from the Coral School of L’Eliana, the Orfeó Valencià Infantil, the Coral School Veus Juntes of Quart de Poblet, the Music School Camp de Morvedre and the La Nau UV Coral School

Tickets starting at €5 may be purchased online, through the Palau’s website, in person at the box office, or by telephone on +34 960 700 100.

Lastly, the Charles Darwin Hall of the Burjassot Campus will host the Orchestra’s last Christmas concert at 13:00, conducted by Mario Torres Mas.

Choral Society of the Universitat de València and Choral Society of La Nau Gran

Among the rest of the university musical ensembles, it is worth mentioning the Christmas programme of the Choral Society of the Universitat de València, which will perform in several churches in the Valencian Community. The first concert, conducted by Francesc Valldecabres, will take place in the Church of Santa Maria in Ontinyent on Friday 15 at 20:00. Also conducted by Valldecabres, the Choral Society will perform the traditional ‘El món canta davant un bressol’ in the Church of Sant Joan and Sant Vicent in Valencia on Saturday 23 at 20:30. This is one of the most veteran recitals in the Christmas music scene of Valencia, with more than 60 editions and an always surprising repertoire that includes Valencian compositions and from all over the world. Tickets for the concert, priced at €10, will be available at the door of the church 45 minutes before the concert starts.

Lastly, they will close their series of Christmas concerts on Tuesday 26 in the Church of Sant Jaume in Vila-real, together with the local orchestra Art Creare. These concerts will be conducted by Sergi Gili.

On the other side, the Choral Society of La Nau Gran of the Universitat de València will perform a concert combining Christmas themes with the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the passing of the Valencian singer-songwriter Nino Bravo. This concert, entitled ‘Nadales amb Nino Bravo’ (“Christmas carols with Nino Bravo”), will be performed by the Choral Society of La Nau Gran (conducted by Mònica Perales i Massana) and the Choral Society Llorenç Barber of Aielo de Malferit (conducted by Rafa Navalón Penadés). It will take place in the Cloister of the La Nau Cultural Centre on Sunday 17 at 12:00.

Except for the concerts of the Orchestra at the Palau de la Música and the Choral Society of the Universitat de València in the Church of Sant Joan and Sant Vicent in Valencia, entry is free with limited capacity.
