According to the new edition of Reuters News’ Ranking, the Universitat de València is for its third consecutive year among the 100 most innovative centres of higher education in Europe. This ranking includes the universities that have had a higher contribution to science and technology. Only five Spanish universities are among the most innovative centres of higher education, five fewer than in 2017.

They are the Universitat de València, the Universitat de Barcelona, the Politècnica de Catalunya, the Autònoma de Barcelona and the Politécnica de València. The ranking is headed by KU Leuven University (Belgium), Imperial College London (United Kingdom) and Cambridge University (United Kingdom).

Reuters News has used the data of Clarivate Analytics and other research platforms in order to establish the ranking: InCites, Web of Science, Derwent Innovations Index, Derwent World Patents Index and Patents Citation Index.

The indicators that have been used to classify the universities are the volume of work, its success and the global number of patens. The quotations that they receive, the impact of the quotations, the quotation of articles by the industry and the total of articles in the Web of Science Core Collection have been also considered. The final score is obtained by equally pondering each indicator but the impact of the quotation of the patent and the percentage of quoted patents. These two factors receive 50% of ponderation each, as they are closely linked to the measurement of the same phenomenon.
