The Universitat de València, on the occasion of the centenary of Vicent Andrés Estellés' birth, organises an international series of conferences. These conferences are celebrated with the aim of raising awareness about the international dimension of the born in Burjassot poet, who was one of the main restorers of the contemporary poetry written in Valencian.

The series is coordinated by Josep Ballester, writer and full professor of Language and Literature Didactics of the Universitat de València, and it is organised by the Gandia Internacional Centre in collaboration with La Nau Cultural Centre. All the conferences will be held at the headquarters of the Universitat de València in Gandia, located in Calle Tossal, at 18.30h and will have free access.

“The objective of this series is to highlight Estellés' figure as one of the most relevant contemporary poets. In fact, his work and his figure form part of the curriculum of European universities and we demonstrate this with the presence of these researchers who are specialists in his work”, explains Ballester.

The series on this poet, who was named doctor ‘honoris causa’ by the Universitat de València in 1993, will begin on Tuesday 15 October with the talk “North there! The Northern Dimension of Vicent Andrés Estellés”, by Dominic Keown, from Fitzwilliam College Cambridge.

On 19 November, Cèlia Nadal Pascual, from the Università per a Stranieri di Siena, will speak on “Vicent Andrés Estellés and the tradition of historical realism”. Meanwhile, on 9 December, Simona Skrabec, from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, will give the lecture La posteridad de V. Andrés Estellés en el contexto europeo (Posterity of V. Andrés Estellés in the European context).

The series will close on 17 December with a conversation between the coordinator, Josep Ballester, and the coordinator of the Estellés Year, Àngels Gregori, on the life and work of Estellés.

All the activities will take place at 18.30h in classroom 1 of the Gandia International Centre and will be free of charge.
