Meeting of representatives of the universities and À Punt

The University of Valencia, along with the rest of public Valencian universities, held a meeting to conduct a follow up on the Collaboration Agreement with À Punt Mèdia, as well as to stand for innovation and the research of new Valencian public media outlets.

The meeting was held in the facilities of À Punt in Burjassot. A total of seven people from different department and institucions participated in it, namely: Miquel Francés, responsible of the Audiovisual Workshop (TAU) of the University of Valencia; Eva María Corbalán, responsible for the Communication Service of the University of Miguel Hernández in Elche; director of the Area of Communication in the Polythecnic University of Valencia, Isabel Tort; director of the Department of Sciences of Communication of the University of Jaume I de Castelló, Javier Marzal; José Antonio Moya, from the department of Communication of the University of Alicante; and the head of the Unit on Social Projection of À Punt Media, Albert Vicent.

The representatives of the Valencian universities have given a good feedback on the actions carried out since July 11 2017, when the abovementioned Collaboration Agreement was signed. Among the highlights accomplished there is the organisation of the first Audiovisual Valencian Pitching, which was hosted by the University of Valencia. A total of 16 audiovisual projects by students were presented – five of them were chosen for the Master in Audiovisual Contents and Formats of the University of Valencia and most of them are currently in a pre-production phase.

Besides this, an offer of 40 internships for students of public Valencian universities was created as well as a promotion of research and knowledge in the programming behind À Punt Mèdia. Special attention was put towards the areas of Journalism, Audiovisual Communication, Physics, Engineering Informatics and Multimedia.

Another thing taken into account was the incorporation of audiovisual productions made by the Valencian universities upon request of À Punt. Once again, some particularly relevant divisions are Universitat de Valencia’s TAU, in the production of documentaries and documentaries; the writing of À Punt Mèdia style guide, in which the universities have participated; or the cooperation in formative actions by the personnel of À Punt, in which our university and the University of Jaume I stood out.

On the other hand, the public Valencian universities and the direction of À Punt Mèdia have accorded some actions to boost the innovation in new Valencian public media outlets. They have also accorded some initiatives to develop the research about new contents and formats which can be used to improve the communicative offer of the company and the training for future professionals of communication in the universities. It has been accorded the beginning of new initiatives in research and innovation, which are much needed to improve the quality of training and communication despite the difficult funding situation that the public Valencian administrations are facing.

In the words of general director of À Punt Mèdia, Empar Marco, the universities are “priority members” in strategy of the public Valencian media to develop projects of innovation and new formats. This strategy will be more developed during the following months.

The representatives of the five public universities of the Valencian territory have remarked the good atmosphere between the universities and À Punt, as well as the willingness to develop all sorts of initiatives that may be useful to boost the public service mission that both institutions share.

The Valencian Media Corporation (CVMC) signed a four year Framework Agreement on July 11 2017 with the deans of the five public universities in the territory. The agreement involves the cooperation in programmes of training and reusing professional members of the CVMC and the universities, the mutual advising in issues regarding the activities of the corporations and universities, the organisation and execution of common activities, seminars, courses, conferences and congresses, the personal exchange for limited time, the cooperation between formative courses among students, the collaboration in production activities and the spreading of programmes and joined promotions in science and knowledge, among other topics.
