The University of Valencia, 151 of the world in Law and in the top five of Spain in four subjects, according to the Times Higher Education ranking (THE)

 

The University of Valencia is among the top five higher education centres in Spain in the subjects of Psychology (where it is the fourth), and in Law, Life Sciences and Engineering and Technology, where it remains the fifth best, according to the Times Higher Education ranking-World University Rankings by subject (THE). In addition, the institution is also ranked sixth in Physical Sciences.

In this edition, the University is ranked in the eleven subjects analysed, and in eight of them it enters for the first time. These new ones are Law (position 151 of the world); Psychology (where the academic centre is in the 176-200 global range); Engineering and Technology (position 301-400 worldwide); and Arts and Humanities (in the 301-400 world section). The centre has also accessed the ranking with the subjects of Economics and Business, Education, Social Sciences and Computer Science.

In those areas where it continues to be classified, such as Sciences of Life and Physical Sciences, the University of Valencia is in the 301-400 range of the world.

Times Higher Education measures the quality of teaching, research, citations, international perspective, reputation and income from industry derived from university activity. This year it has ranked a total of 1,258 institutions around the world, 156 more than in the previous edition, 38of which are Spanish. At the end of November the classification by subject was updated, while the general classification of 2018 was made at the end of September. In it, the University consolidated itself as the first Valencian one and the sixth in Spain, it advanced in all the measured indicators, especially in citations of scientific publications and entered the group of the 500 best universities in the world.

The Times Higher Education ranking, founded in 2004, uses Elsevier-Scopus as bibliometric data provider. The total score uses the indicators of teaching (30% of the total value), research (another 30%), citations (30%), industry revenues (2,5%) and international perspective (7.5%).
