The Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and Multilingualism of the University of Valencia (UV) has announced the Josep Martínez Bisbal awards for the use of Valencian and linguistic quality in academic communication and scientific dissemination, to promote linguistic equality in academic publications. The deadline for submitting originals ends on March 1.

The awards are aimed at those people who carry out research or dissemination work at the University of Valencia. The fundamental requirement to submit a candidacy is that the works have been published in 2023, whether they are articles, books and/or chapters of academic communication and scientific dissemination books. It is also a requirement that they be written in Valencian, although they may contain citations of texts in other languages.

The financial endowment of each award will vary depending on the linguistic quality and the volume of text in Valencian of the publications presented, with a maximum of 1,500 euros per application. Opinion articles, texts on Catalan language and literature, and their didactics are excluded, as well as texts that have been corrected or translated by the Languages and Language Policy Service or texts that have previously been awarded prizes.

Those who carry out a research or dissemination task in any department, institute, research group or organisation of the UV can apply for these awards. In addition, applications are individual, so only one application can be submitted per person, although applications may include collective work.

Josep Martínez Bisbal

The Josep Martínez Bisbal awards (Catadau, 1950–València, 2021) have been convened in memory of the professor of Philosophy and vice-rector of Studies at the University of Valencia between 1990 and 1994, who actively participated in the democratisation movement of the institution and was involved in improving educational quality through the University Reform Law of the mid-1980s.
