The University of Valencia (UV) is the fourth Spanish higher education institution in UniRank, an international ranking of 13,600 universities based on web presence and popularity according to estimated traffic, trust and quality links. In addition, in terms of following on Facebook, it is the first Valencian university in number of likes (eleventh in Spain) and second on Twitter (seventh at the state level).

The UniRank university ranking is an international higher education directory and search engine that lists centres that offer at least four years of undergraduate and graduate studies and provide classroom teaching. Data for web metrics is collected in the same week to minimise temporary fluctuations. UniRank has recently been updated in the Facebook and Twitter versions. The first is based on the popularity (number of people who like it –likes– or of followers –fans count–) of the main page; and in the second in the total number of followers.

Thus, the UV has risen from 65,434 followers in 2020 to 69,774 in 2021, while on Facebook it goes from 63,909 to 67,238 in the same period. With these data, the institution continues to lead the Valencian ranking on Facebook, as during the last four years.

In addition, regarding the UniRank global data, in addition to being the fourth Spanish institution, the University of Valencia occupies the 43rd position at European level and is the 185th in the world. In this update, the Spanish ranking is headed by the Complutense University of Madrid, the University of Barcelona and the University of La Rioja. In Europe, the top three places go to Oxford, Cambridge and the University College London, while the top three in the world are the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard and Stanford.

UniRank is based on an algorithm that includes five narrow independent and unbiased web metrics from four web intelligence sources: Moz Domain Authority, Alexa Global Rank, Similarweb Global Rank, Majestic Referring Domains, and Majestic Trust Flow.
